my green sunfish has developed white fuzz around his mouth and a few spots on body. I usually keep the water heated at about 73 deg F. But I unplugged the heater, and week later its sick. So what are the advantages of keeping it heated or not heated. It was heated for 6 months without a hitch, and I have a routine so nothing has changed except the removal of the heat. Is now 65 F or so. Other fish are fine as of now.

I doubt that water temp has anything to do with it, if your other fish are tropical i would plug the heater back in.

post your tank specs

and what is your routine?

also what do you feed the green, I read a post recently where someone was feeding a sunfish Freeze dried salt water shrimp, and the fish had similar reaction.

I will try and find it for you

55 gal, 2 week 30% water change. Mainly eats minnows from bait store, and some freeze dried blood worms. no tropicals other fish are blugill and sunny. He is the aggressive one, but he does some flashing since I got him 8 months ago but no disease problems.

I would avoid bait store minnows, they can introduce disease into your tank.
