BTW guys, they don't speak pure Spanish in the Philippines. There is a lot of Spanish influence and so a lot of Spanish words but not all in Spanish.

In Tagalog THE PHILIPPINES is called PILIPINAS. So we refer to each other in Tagalog as PILIPINOS, I think it's harder to to say that with a "P" so it's changed to a "F" since the english version of PILIPINAS is "PHILippines" where "PHIL" is pronounced "FIL". But for the Filipinos that prefer using the "P" we have a informal way of saying PILIPINO. Instead we sometimes use the word PINOY instead.
It's complicated. Best not to think about it and just go with the flow. LOL
