Take the wood out and give it a scrubbing.... lol When you have a plec they eat wood so it never get fuzz....I think it is some form of mold or something but I could be wrong....

black hair algae?

Manual Removal?

I find that my rosie and glass barbs eat the stuff pretty well, but not the black hair.. green hair they gobble.. So do some livebearers..

Black hair algae is usually the result of improper nutrient balance, high nitrates, extended photoperiods, and most likely the WRONG TYPE OF LIGHT BULB. (spectrum, kelvins)

Gray fur on wood would be bacterial, but if it is on plants and wood, it is more likely to be a black hair algae.

I have wood in my tanks.....When there is no plec grazing the wood it gets whatever it gets black hair algae/bacteria and it can be wiped off of the wood. I don't know of a way to get it off of the plants, just the wood....

I was 100% WAY off....That is something I have never seen....Looks like black hair to me. :)....

How do I get ride of "Black Hair Algae" if thats what it is? I just took that one piece of wood out blasted it with the hose then seared it with a blow torch then scrubbed it and rinsed it off good put it back into the tank and that stuff is still there!!! It's thinned out, but the dam stuff is still there!]

I even boiled this wood prior to use. But not since thsi stuff appeared. I could boil this piece again. But a have several pices that plants are growing on and I cant boil them of the plants would die too.

What should I do?
