That is black beard algae. You can dose with excel and a syringe directly on the affected areas to get rid of it.

applying excel (as mentioned) or prime to the algae will kill it, but unless you improve your tank maintenance, it will come back. feed less, water change more.

Very much south..
I think it has more to do with light exposure ( and possibly nitrates, ok ) then with poor maintenance / WC..

Some of my tanks that are exposed to sun light and the sump of my main tank have this even growing in the glass of the heaters...

since we're at it, what is Excel?

WyldFya, HarleyK.. Anyone have some more precise info to help this guy out? I don't think I am well versed enough in planted tanks to help him out..

SoulFish, post the exact specs of your tank like lighting, water parameters, filtration, feeding, w/c's..etc
