Well...if the store will sell you one live, then I don't see why not.
 
Wouldn't they die though..i mean they're so crowded and in-active..

just tell them you have a friend that works at a sushi place and he'll fillet the fish for you..and they'll probably give it to you live(if you bring a bag)
 
Where do they have live tilapia? I don't see a reason for it. IMO, a fish kept in a small tank is not "fresh". I would actually prefer fish frozen immediately upon catch.
 
There are oriental markets that have what look like tilapia hybrids under those conditions.

yeah, they have like 25-30 in a 150g (give or take)

It's pretty common in asian markets, certain fish markets, and exotic foods places. I've been in several stores where you can buy live tilapia out of the tank to eat. Hell, there's a store in Cincinnati, OH called jungle jims that has several types of live seafood, including several different species of fish.

If I wanted live fish I would personally go catch them myself, but some people buy them I guess *shrug*.
