If you buy a ground probe on line one end of it plugs into an outlet in your wall and the other end is a probe that goes into your tank / pond.
You must make sure your outlet you plug into is truly grounded. They make a ground tester you can buy at your local hardware store for 3 bucks.
The ground probe only has the ground portion of the plug that plugs into your wall. ( the round part of the plug ).
Once you see the probe in your hand it makes sense. Your only using the ground pin of your wall outlet. ( round bottom part ).
