Very close to what I was going to say. Muskellunge get big very quickly. A chain pickerel would be a better choice, but again they get quite big. A grass or redfin pickerel will get 10-12" long as adults. They look very similar to a musky. I have kept them before and they make very good aquarium fish. You can probably catch pickerel where you live or you could order them from some sites online for a small price (and no waiting list). If you talk to the right people you could even get them to send you some for free. ;)

Yea what he said. I is not right to even try to house one of those they need to roam, IMHO a pond is too small they are lake fish. Also they need cold water to thrive. Warm water killed a bunch here in MI this year.

I have a fairly large pond that I will put them in when they get too big. I am not going to cramp them in a tank that is way too small for them! Thats just cruel! There were a lot of dead ones here as well since the water got to about 80 degrees! One was almost 50!!!

This is just my opinon, I would not put one in a pond either. If Lake St. Clare, The Detroit river and Lake Erie all got too warm to fast for Muskie's,what do you think will happen in your pond? In a small pond just 1 Muskie can desrtoy just about every fish you can put in it. That said I would love to even comptoplate the decision, so Iam jelous that i dont have a pond. Good luck!

The pond is pretty well shaded with some old oaks and maples. I think it would be a cool idea to just have muskies left in the pond. I think I would add some gills in there though so that the muskies would not just eat thier offspring, but maybe I could add some perch and crappies too. Thanks!

pickeral are not similar to a musky. there teeth size for one isnt even close and musky patterns are nicer. i catch both.
