i was thinking about turning my 85gl long into saltwater. will dwarf lions tolerate a group? if so do they have to be the same variation? what top water fish will do well with them? i don't want tang's or damsels, their are a few wrasses that i like, and maybe a trigger. thanks to all that respond.

yeah dwarf lions are pretty tolerant of each other..

pretty mcuh any fish that's too big to eat (6+ inches) would work..

triggers and puffer tend to be nippy, as are angels..

honestly pretty much anything else that's big enough is fine

tangs, butterflies, anthias, grouper, basses, squirelfish, goatfish, etc etc etc

will lion eat lion? if i got a zebra dwarf lion (max 8") would it consider a fu manchu lion (max 4") food? would a harlequin tusk be alright with the dwarfs? havn't found much info on the web as far as compatibility.

not unless it's a starving fully grown lion against a baby

an adult lionfish is safe with fish over 4-5 inches (including other lions)

most dwarf lions never get to the reported 7-8 inches.. the largest ones i've seen were like 5".. of any kind

i'd be suspicious of the tuck nipping at the lion's fins.. other than that it should be fine

You can do a group of lions, very rarely do they bother each other unless there is a very big size difference.

But it will be a boring tank.

If he's expecting the fish to swim around and be active... Then he will be very wrong. While lionfish are beautiful to look at when they are swimming around, when they get into their perch mode (which is more often), he'll know what it is to have a boring tank.

having 4-5 in a tank would increase the odds that one is swimming at any given time
