I think many people underestimated the size that senegal can grow.

Here is one monster senegal, own by GarNiac
This picture was taken about 2 monthes ago, I have no idea how much more has the senegal grown
But by this pic, a 30x12x18 is clearly not enough for an active beast such as this

IMHO thats a very misleading picture to show how it looks like for a fully grown sen in a 30gal tank, that picture is only showing 1/3 of the whole tank.

I actually have 30gal as a quarantine tank, with currently one 11" congicus and 9" Lapradei.

Misleading or not, my sen, have been in a 90 gallon most of it's teen life, I tried to put him in a 55 and he came unglued! by far my male sen swims the most, the albino short body female I have is second active... He paces up and down left to right for HOURS looking for more tank when I had in a temp 55...

At 10 1/2" my sen needs his space to swim, 75G min footprint IMO...48x18. My shorter albino I could see in a 55 or even a 45 tall for life(if she didn't freak every time my male was not next to her, lol).

IMO, 30 gallons for a quarantine for 2 bichirs at 9" and 10" is not very suitable.

Stress plays a major part in the quarantine procedure.
A stressed fish is less likely to recover from any illness, and possibly become ill.

I also think a quarantine needs to be a good size to be able to watch the fish have a good swim, to be able to keep an eye on it's movement.

Each to his own I guess.

My Quarantine tank is a 3ft x 2ft x2ft.
Filtration is Eheim 2260
ph 7.0
temp 30c (I keep the temp high for helping with treatment and also for helping to get fish onto pellets.
Black sand, no ornaments.

All my fish go into here for a few weeks before adding to their main homes.
All WC Bichirs are medicated regardless of showing signs of any problems.

Erm my point wasn't the tank, but the 11" senegal.

For now thats the only tank and space at home at i could afford, but i do have a feeder quarantine tank 75gal, i dont want to mix the feeders with newly acquired bichirs.

what do you medicate as a standard for newly acquired bichirs, they are both WC, any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I medicate with "Refish".

It is known here in Japan as a wonder cure!
With WC Bichirs, it is mainly the "Bichir worm" that I like to eradicate first.
