hi guys,
I have an empty 20 gallon long and I was sort of thinking of getting a black rohm...
The fish in question is around 1"

Is a 20 gallon ok for a while?
I know they do get fairly big and I will of cause get a bigger tank in due time.

1" you will be fine for a bit, look at a 125, preferably a 180 if you plan on keeping him for life.

thanks for the reply
I tend to keep my fish for a very long time...
Don't often buy new fish...And when I do I am in it for the long run

So hopefully I can enjoy my baby rohm for a couple of decades

They tend to get to 5in relatively quickly. I think within the first 6 months to a year. After that they drastically slow down to about .5in growth a year. I kept a rhom for 17 years and he went from 3in to 10in.

I'd stick with the 20g for a bit then upgrade. If possible I'd jumped to a 120g but you can always to 75g first. I don't think 180g is necessary based on their swim habits. No one has grown a small one past 12in. Any exceeding 12in were brought in at 9in or larger.

When I first got my Rhom,It was the size of a nickel so I put it in a 5 gallon. Now, three years later, its about 8 inches or so. And, in a 40 gallon breeder. I have a 75 gallon for it but it doesn't use the whole 40, and hates being moved.

If I can suggest - put it in the largest tank, and never move it. I've moved mine three times, and each time it becomes fearful of me, and acts reclusive for months.

I'll keep him in the 20g until he's a bit bigger and then move him to his final tank..don't want to move him too many times.

I'm thinking about getting either a 6x2x2 or a 4x3x2..volume wise they're identical...which one would be better?
