oscars are hit and miss. i never had a problem w/ the one i kept w/ my bichirs.

i say more bichirs!

ok so i cant keep "true" gars where i live but i was thinking something like a snake skin gourami? they get about 10" max. or maybe some bala sharks? like 4 or 5? i was looking at choco cichlids or fire mouths. i like clown loaches 2 but idk wat would work the best and how many?

I don't know if you'd want anything else competing with the lower area of the tank with the bichirs.

Only reason to stay away from oscars is the plants, they will tear them up. I've kept my sens with an aro, BGK, angels, leporinus, ornate, various plecos all without issue.

I meant putting much of anything with the Oscar. They are aggressive.

no, they really arent. all my oscars have been pussies and got the **** beat out of them. theyre just predatory.

I dunno all the oscars I've had have been bullies. Maybe because they are usually the largest/most aggressive fish in their tank. They have always picked on their tankmates at least a little bit, usually not as bad as they pick on each other though. The real problem I guess would be their growth rate. They would vastly outpace the bichirs and the tank. Just my experience anyway.
For upper levels try leaf fish, then you have a whole african theme.
