i have a 13 inch butti living in my 300g community, he is fine, just because you only hear the horror storys doesnt mean 1000's arnt living happily in communitys with fish of equal aggression... its mostly down to the larger tank = less aggression argument. heres mine, i rescued him from a guys shed in a half filled 55 in green water at about 10 inch!

Sure, except the OP's tank is a 180 gallon, and also houses a PAIR of festae. I'm rather certain you won't find long term success stories in 1000's of set ups like that. lol

I guess I'm just a realist when I see someone that is obviously new to the game of large aggressive cichlid communities attempting to push a square peg into a round hole. But hey, good luck!

Actually my festaes have NOT paired off. They pretty much leave each other alone each day. The male prefers to hang around with my Texas and the female prefers to just be by herself. They aren't even showing spawning behavior.

I've been throwing around the idea of selling one of the festaes after I decide which one fits in with my community better but I won't know which one for quite some time. They are still pretty small now.

That's a good thing, enjoy the moment then, your festae are still very young. Like I said, good luck, with these fish & that size of tank you're going to need it.

hey rd!-) im saying it will work, im just throwing out the fact that many are living in communitys. op, there is a very real chance of a butti flipping out as i have read on here. ime ive kept 5-6 butti and they are no worse in my aggressive community than midas or rd, ive had blackbelts that were nastier! obviously you wont be able to keep oscars or severums in there, and there will be huge fights at times.... i lost my festae due to a system crash but i was on the verge off moving either those or my butti due too a couple of huge fights! now however the butti lives in realative harmony in my tank... if two cichlids dont like each other its game over in the long run. there are two video of my butti and festae establishing there position in my tank when i added the butti, they can be found on my youtube page in my sig, there were a few scraps but no major damage.

also its not always going to be the fish you want to keep in an aggressive community, more the ones that work... often i wish i went peaceful/pair or wetpet!

Just took these two pics this morning. Growth is very fast with this guy. This butti gets chased around some hence the tears in the caudal fin.

Looking really good!

Even though he's getting chased around right now, we all know there's likely a power shift at some point.
