May I ask what you mean by "male face markings"?

I ask because I have a (silver) female with thick seams and pointed fins so now I'm curious about what the differences are in their face markings? Thanks in advance. :)

Edit: and sorry for the partial derail. :D
I stole (borrowed :) ) pictures from both of you, let me know if it's a problem.
Females have blue smudging or bearding under their jaws. Basically just a blue area which males totally lack (circled in red)
Males also have cleaner (often thinner) "whisker" like markings, females "whiskers" also often branch and join. (Whiskers circled in pink)
Pointed fins tend to be a male trait but many females can also have them, similar situation with the seams I assume.
The markings in the face seem to be second only to venting.Screenshot_20171209-185149.png Screenshot_20171209-185144.png

Hey man thanks. Love the way these are turning out... Didn't even know Platinum Jds existed. Googled them!! They look pretty awesome. Hope it is one. I just thought they must colour up later on haha... Always learning

Well the first one looks like a normal, the second looks like maybe a plat, or just a sub male so no coloring really. You said the 1st JD was tank boss so more than likel a sub male. My female at times get real light as well.

To me they both look male, you can see in this picture of the same fish colored up for her male. Females have a what's called "bearding" see all the blue on her face from her eyes sweaping to her gill plates.

I don't see the bearding on any of your JDs so I would say both are male.

I'm thinking down the track I may need to get a separate tank for the festae and fenestratus. For now they are all doing OK but I think once the festae hit around 5 inch even in a bigger tank they will kill the jds, texas and gt

I would agree, male Festae can reach 16in or so, females to 12in so yes a bigger tank will be needed. I want to do Festae set up myself, waiting till I can get at least a 180g 6x2x2 for them, maybe a 240 8x2x2.
The JDs will grow way smaller, males 10in and females 8in normally.
I had a juvenile RT, for two months, it started to shred everything in the tank so I had to rehome it.
