Grow plants in your biofilter

Mrgrackle,

I would love to see more details (parts used, etc) on how you built your bellsiphons for your application. These seem like a great idea for other applications the diy'ers on here might have. Also keep use updated on your progress, i love the idea

the link at the bottom of my last post explains really well how the bell siphon works. i built mine out of 1/2" pcv for the stand pipe/drain and then 2" pvc with a cap for the bell. for the airvent i just used some 3/8" inner diameter tubing but i've since replaced that with another 1/2" pvc pipe for more air sucking power to help break the siphon actino better. once i get mine working really well ill post a pic with it disassembled

if i where to build it again i would have used a 1" standpipe instead of the 1/2". it would have made the water drain faster and i think would help with my problem of the siphon not breaking well enough.

Very interesting making mother nature work for you .I also used to use hydroponics for growing plants........ But used the diffrent chemicals to get the results this is a very intelligent low tec approach that seems to work very well.

cant wait to see once everything is all done

Looks interesting. If anyone wants to check out more take a look at the barrelponics yahoo group here
:http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/barrelponics/ and more information at my website at: www.fastonline.org. I wrote a small manual on how to build a simple aquaponics system that I invented back in 2004 and is a free download from my website. My current setup has a 1000 gallon inground tank with 37 barrel half growbeds and uses a ferrocement flood tank that floods 350 gallons per cycle. Keep up the good work!!
Trav.
