any suggestions on good brands or sources to buy T5HO lighting. They all appear to be in the region of $200? Is this normal or are there cheeper places to get them?

Hagen has just made a line available, and they are quite affordable. IF you want a carpet, $200 shouldn't even phase you. The proper co2 system for the tank will run several hundred.
