Growing on baby cuban cichlids quickly

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Nice pick up. I have kept these before and they grew fairly slow. I never had any problems with bloat but I have heard that they do have problems with this similar to N. Haitiensis. I would suggest lots of water changes and if they start being aggressive towards each other give them a bigger tank or separate them stress is a big factor for bloat.

Watch out for aggression.
I bought some a while back, at about 3" for the largest and 2" smallest they started going at it. Woke one morning to find the smallests half end of the body down the largest ones gullet, caught the "pair" and pulled out the smaller to find it half digested, only the back bone left, needless to say, it didn't make it. They were being housed in a well planted 40 breeder tank.

Umm at this size they can't do much damage.

they are slow growers my dad bought some a while back they were 4-5" at the time about.. 4-5months later they hadnt grown atall.

started at almost 1" in july. Its almost 6months later and they are 4.5". I did water changes once every 2 weeks and kept them in a 5' tank. Maybe do more frequent water changes to grow them faster. oh, I fed them twice a day! high protein pellets. never bloated.

hope they grow fast for you. I'm trying to grow out some nasties fast too. take pictures of those cubans, they change alot as they grow.

Well here they are their tiny!
