70 gallon tank

Before we clipped them yesterday, my swords were about sixteen inches tall and took up about eighteen or twenty inches side to side in the water. I got them about a year ago, and they were only five inches tall. So they really grow -- if your tank is smaller, I might go with a different plant, but I'm no expert on plants. I'm sure someone else will have some suggestions.

Edit: Here's a photo of mine about two or three months ago (I don't have a more recent one!):

its only a 55, gonna have a few hujetas in there couple red tail cats, couple pacu, a few arapaimas small fish ya know? kidding don't hate me. 2 hujetas and a senegal would go in it. the hujetas supposedly love cover so it would be more for them than anything. i like how its all at the top too.

would crush coral throw off anything? i was looking at it to be honest. i like the color, and it won't be as much of a pain as setting up the sand. further input on crushed coral? if i have the coral would i need to put salt in?

Crushed coral is not a good idea, especially for some of the plants mentioned in this thread. It will raise the pH too high. Most of those plants prefer softer water with a sightly lower pH.

zpetrichko... I'm not sure if you commented with the intention of adding plants or if you were kidding. It's not a great idea to add any salt to planted tanks unless you are growing mangroves or other plants that have a root system that can "sieve" salt from water.

Crushed coral is dead coral, so... no, you don't need to add salt, but for living coral...most definitely you need salt, since it would require a saltwater tank!

well its kinda my thread. i was intending on making a planted tank. i would like crushed coral because it alot simpler maintenance and care than sand but sand seems the best option. any other input on the crushed coral?

and what i meant by adding salt, is usually your told add a few tablespoons of salt per gallon. would the crushed coral negate that fact because it did have salt in it.
