X2... Silvers can be finicky eaters. Starve him a bit and he will take to pellets eventually. I buy frozen shrimp from walmart and my aros love them.
1"-2" a month is pretty average growth for silvers.. They slow down a little after the 2 foot mark.

How do you prepare the frozen shrimp. im in no rush for my my, Sleepy, to blow up, cause he still lives with angels until that tank becomes his, but he needs top eat better

cool! thanks everyone! I was very leery about walmart feeding because i dont know how fresh their food is. But now that I know I am not so leery, Does anyone ever feed theirs chicken?

Defrost and deshell the shrimp. Since your aro is still small cut the shrimp to small chunks. Also try tilapia filet(I buy mine at walmart)

X2--Good advice... Buy the frozen raw shrimp--shell on(mine eat cooked as well but it's not as good for them). I soak the shrimp in water to thaw, then shell and feed :grinno:.

At that size you really should try to get onto pellets. A varied diet is most healthy, you can also try freeze dried and frozen krill, frozen silver sides even crickets among other things. Check in the arowana care sticky for a long list of potential food items.

Wow! Thanks for the help everyone! I have him hooked on market shrimp, I need to order some pellets because none of the LFS's around here have them. (No one likes predatory fish I guess). But as of the past couple days he is getting way more active and his stripes in his fins are showing up way clearer, Again. Thank you so much everyone

In a year your aro grew 25"???? what were you feeding him/her.. pics please :)

That's what I'm saying, if mine gets 10 inches this year ill be excited, he can't get enough of shrimp lol. Is over-feeding an issue with these guys? or are they bottomless pits like my angels?

No mate.. they'd easily do 10"+ in the first year.. i got myself a couple of aros around 5" this jan and they are easily 13"+ but not more than 15".. aros are not like oscars.. they(well mine) eat only when they are hungry.. look at the stomach.. for a small aro, 2 to 3 times a day is great.. 12"+ aros 2 times a day.. 20"+ people generally say feed every other day.. i got a 22".. i still feed twice a day.. but back to the question.. dont dump too much food in there.. observe for about a week and feed only what is required.. cheers..
