Growing Tomatoes?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
We've been thinking about planting some. We have wild rabbits in our yard so we have been scared to start. Might try the topsy tervy thing.

Have peppers going outside, started a cherry tomato inside and will keep it there as it will be too hot for it soon.

get a greenhouse. I made my first one out of 2x4's and screening, but upgraded after a couple years to this assemble-it-yourself kit.

We grow tomatoes and a bunch of other veges at our cottage. Also thinking about setting up an aquaponics system.

Been searching online for greenhouse kits but feel they cost too much, we are thinking about making our own.

What would be a good kind to grow in Texas heat?

You need to look for a hybrid designed for your climate. Most tomatoes here stop producing once temperatures stay in the high 80s and above, why I'm growing it inside.

Aquaponics is a great way to go, just keep in mind you will need something other than chemicals to treat the water.

Wrong time of year here. I didn't grow any this summer but I'm thinking about having a go next summer, you just can't beat the taste of home-grown outdoor tomatoes for home made tomato sauce [ketchup]. We had a good crop of strawberries, celeriac, chillis, capsicum, sweet corn etc this summer though. I've got some Habanero and Scotch Bonnet seeds for next summer, and I have a few hop plants growing for my brewing but probably still another year or two away from getting a good crop.
