Growth in a Year?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
they grow fast up to 7-8inch then slow right down

plenty of experts hear who will give you the exact growth rate to the nearest cm

Thanks for the reply guys. I was just worried that maybe my Dats were growing too slow and that something might be wrong with them. I have a runt, but I'd figured it's cuz he's not getting food fast enough. That one has probably grown an 1" in a year while the others about 2"-3" I have 6 Dats in a 75g with a Fluval 404 and 405. I do 50% weekly water changes. I feed them cut pieces of shrimp and fish from time to time with the occasional feeders (which I haven't given them any since November) once a while, but their main staple is Freeze-Dried Shrimp that I feed every other day. Does that sound ok or should I change something?

I have 7 dats in the grow out tank (75 Gallon). They were less than 1" long in December of 2007.

As of last night, they're all at 3.5"-4.5". Some of more dominants were the larger ones.

I feed them twice a day. Pellets in the morning, frozen foods at night (market shrimp, krill, silversides, smelt and smelt eggs)

I do WC 3 times a week at 35 gallon per WC.

Filtration: 2 - FX 5, Eheim 2217 and AC 110 (I did have 2, but had to take one out for hospital tank) I also have a lot of current in the tank, they love to hang out by the return stream and powerhead output.

In conclusion, keep them well fed, give them plenty of room to roam and swim, keep water condition in prisitine condition and you will have a fast growing dats.

if you have a couple of dats (4 or 5), you give them healthy food (so not worthless feeders) and your waterquality is good, than you might be surprised

:jaw: No wonder they are worth a million dollars when they are 10"+
Never knew they grew that slow!

Yup...as much as I like Dats, too slow of a growth rate for me and too pricey when they're big. :(

dats are awesome, but soooo slow to grow!

Had a few Indos grow from 3.5" to 6" in like 3-4 months..Sold them off recently so not sure if the pace was going to keep up.

Was feeding them twice a day. Food consist of Shrimp, Beefheart, talapia, Hikari sticks and Freeze dried shrimp.
