Growth Inhibitor Hormones and Carbon

Most grow outs are not in a larger central system but ratherrun independantly so that if a problem develops in one tank it does not affect the hatchery/fishroom.

Therefore, growouts are usually 55g- 75g tanks. They are much easier managed.
My specific tap water comes from a private lake and is very clean, so I pump tap direct to tanks.( I am lucky)

I use the house water heater(large 40g unit) and mix cold tap. The water is about 76F when it goes in the tank and I do not have chlorine issues. Ph from tap is 7.6.

it depends on

temp of incoming water
flow rate
wattage of tank heaters.

if it goes in slowly 24x7 adequate tank heaters will keep the temperature stable

I agree no need for carbon on an open system. Have you figured the cost monthly in energy and water?

Hello!! I would just like to ask, when fishes such as discus grow to their mature size, do I still have to water change so frequently, i mean it's not like they will grow any more right?

I could be wrong but if a fish is at its mature size it does not release any growth inhibiting hormones so these large frequent water changes would be uneccesary.
