Ok so around 8 weeks ago my pair of cuban cichlids (now living with bolty) had fry:). When the perents moved home i removed the fry to a grow out tank of there own (around fifty in all). Over the past few weeks i've lost a few of the fry but i expected this. The thing i would like some help with is growth rate.

In eight weeks the fry don't seem to have grown at all they are around 3/8th of an inch roughly the same size as when they became rigglers. I feed two or three times a day and carry out 2-3 water changes a week. Does this seem right? the only fry i've grown out before are guppies, kribensis and convicts all have grown much faster.

hmmm i had a similar worry with my jags.
my first batch of jags came around mid june or something.
the fry remained painfully small until around 2 months ago when one of them became a monster and subsequently ate most of his siblings.
he's now substantially larger than the other survivor.
i think the key is space... if you are keeping them in a smallish tank that might not work out for their growth.

Thanks for the replies, i'll up the feeding to 3-5 times a day. They are in a 15g tank at the moment its the only tank i have that they can stay in on there own. I plan to move them to a 30g next but this would lead to an untimely end until they reach the 1 inch mark.

mine are in a 15 and a 10 and mine have grow quite quick?? are cubans normaly fast growing cichlids?
yeh cubans are extremely slow growers any way soo....

what are you feeding them? they say feed baby brine shrimp for the first 2weeks and then move on to crushed flake but i feed baby brine shrimp for about 6-8weeks...yeah i costs more but the fry imo look better, grow quicker and are stronger. i only do w/c 70-80% a week
