Growth rate of alligator gar?

Another point about a smaller aquarium that I'm surprised hasn't come up is food availability. If the tank is huge and the fish isn't doing too well, it might not be able to find all the food it needs. In a smaller aquarium, the food is always right there.

And you WIN with point number two for the step up Gar husbandry method.. Often seems to be left out when quoted from our (Solomon and myself) original experiments and development of this methodology and reasons for it's success rate.

My old gator gar grew from 11"-24" in less then 4 months. I raised it in a 450g and fed it loads of prawns and lake smelts every other day with twice a week massive water changes. I would say if properly cared for and have the proper tank size for it a Gator Gar can grow 3+" per month.

I would say it's how you over feed the fish!
