Growth rate of EBJD's

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
yeah, as long as they don't have parasites they should grow pretty well, you could compare it to a GTs growth rate i think, as far as foods go just feed a good pellet and mix it up with good insects and shrimp here and there

Any advise on how to avoid this problem???

I have no idea, everyone says don't feed feeders and such but none of my other fish have a problem it is always them I never use feeders for any fish. Buying plants from tanks without fish in them and not introducing new fish would help, but I have no clue how mine exactly got them I think they have weaker genetics in general. They eat just don't eat as often as they used to and sometimes shake their head when I put food in even when they arn't going fot it. Growth has slowed my biggest is a hair over 8'', I haven't seen one bigger yet so I'd like to save him if I could. I try and use the parasite meds but they don't work. I'm trying to stuff some worms with some med pellets and see if they fall for it. Hope it helps me a bit. Ive had the problem for a while. I like ebjd but probably won't keep them again because they are a hassle people say they do better when they get older, I think they are easier to keep in the 3-5'' range than the 7''+.

I have had 3 of these guys....one stayed around 6" and the other two made it to about 8".... I found that massivore/carnivore helped grow fast.
And they seemed to be prone to internal bacterial infection, I fought off infections with these guys many times.....then I got a UV sterilizer on a slow flowrate, and that seemed to help a lot. Watch out for the bloated stomach look, and also thickening slimecoat.....all of the ones that I had showed these symptoms at one time or another..... My water is hard and ph is around 7.6-7.8.... The best conditions IMO for these guys is soft water..... RO....or just neutral ph with low hardness..... Good luck, these are one of my fav's..... I hope yours stay healthy for a long time to come...

yeah mine had parasites when i first got him but i treated with jungle parasite clear and that cleared it right up, but sadly he got stuck in a shell and died when he was still young so i didnt get to see how big he would get...

The UV sterilizer is that just a light i can buy???

no it is a thing that you can buy that has a uv light inside of it and pushes the water through at a slow rate, sterilizing the water as it passes through
