what is the growth rate of a GT? anybody know?

mine grew about an inch a month untill 6" which is usually the full size but took almost 5 months to grow two more inches. alot of people say they are extremely slow growers.

hmm ok.i was just wondering cuz i can get a 4 or so in one and put it in a tank with a 2in rtc and i was just trying to figure out how long before the RTC becomes threat to the GT

RTC's supposedly grow like weeds and while you should get an inch a month until about 6" the GT will likely be eaten or at least have an attempt on it when the RTC gets only slightly larger, they have enormous mouths. it would probably work for a couple of months. it may even kill both if the RTC has eyes bigger than its belly and chokes.

a lot of growth rates depend on good genes as well as husbandry and food.

yeah its all about the 6 inch mark and than crash the growing comes almost to a halt. with a rtc your already asking for disaster no matter which fish you lose if not booth

My male went from about 2" to 7" in 7 months.

Worth nothing I almost lost him to internal paracites at about 4", but after the treatment his growth considerably increased.

He also at 6" went from very peaceful to not liking any other smaller male fish. A blue acara got 7 bells whipped out of him (possibly as they are very similar)

yea i know he may end up as RTC food once the RTC gets a little bigger, i was thinking about just keeping him in there with him until the RTC gets a little bigger to minimze th number of tanks i have setup right now, when he gets bigger i can move him

Mine grew fast to 4" because it ate like a horse. Lost him recently to an internal parasite.
:( I was pissed, was a georgous fish, the coloring/markings were excellent...plus it was accepted by my community tank mates, which are very rowdy and very selective about what I put in there...lol
