Hi all,

I currently have a Mbu Puffer that snacks on clams, snails, shrimp, and krill. Since he's my first Mbu I was wondering on their growth rate. He currently lives in a 125 gallon and will be moving into a monster tank with in the next year. When i bought him i would says he was about 6-7 inches and now I would say he might be around 7-8. He's been in the 125 gallon for 3 months since his 10 gallon days at the pet store. Can anyone give me an idea on how much they grow/year. I wanted a mbu for their size and i'm yet to see dramatic growth.... Thank you for your time and any info. is appreciated....

1" in 3 months is doing very well. That would = 4"/year if that growth rate continues!

Awesome, Thank you.....

it really should be growing quicker then that depending on how often u feed. I had a fahaka in the past and within 1 year he went from 2 inches to 12 inches. So I would assume thats slightly slow. Make sure your doing weekly water changes he is in the stage where you can be feeding him once every two days however, if you want it to pick up a bit of size feed it once a day. I always found prawns with head on work best.

Most folks claim about 1"/month for the 1st couple of years. It is very possible he was stunted in the 10g. What's this monster tank he's getting?

He's headed into a 300 gallon next which should last him for a couple years. I was thinking the same thing about possibly being stunted in growth due to living in that 10 gallon for a while. I feed him daily rotating shrimp and clams, that he'll take right out of my hands so i know he's healthy, but not seeing the growth i would look to see.....

Try soaking the foods in a good vitamin, like Vita-Chem.
