Anyone know the growth rate of a Redfin pickerel? Also I'm wondering if a Northern or Tiger musky. Haven't decided on which one yet. Could be housed in a 520 gallon tank with a bow fin of same size?

I would forget the tiger muskie for the aquarium. Northern maybe but they needs to be keep in cool temperatures. As for the growth rate of redfin pickerel, they don't get big, rarely hits 12" mark, 7-8" is average size for both redfin and grass pickerel.

I know redfin stay small, if you want one inbetween a northern pike and redfin, check into chain pickerel. Atleast where im from the seem to top out around the 3-3.5' mark and likely a bit smaller in an aquarium which should make them good size in your 520g

Yeah I have always been a fan of Esox, I do like the chains and I've considered them in the past. The only reason I considered the Tiger is due to the fact there is a hatchery 10 minutes down the road. The 520 isn't completed yet with what I have I could make up to 750. So larger is an option. I know pickerel stay small, I was more so curious of how quickly a juvenile grows when given the proper conditions.

A 750gal isn't enough for a tiger muskellunge. They do better in ponds than in the aquariums tho.

Just mentioned other fish since a slender bodied relatively small fish will likely end up food if(when) you put big fish in there haha

That's for sure! I am planning on having it be limited to one or two species of large north American fish. The build is still in progress. I just am.trying to figure out how big to go prior to ordering the Acrylic. The pickerel question didn't pertain to the 520g. I actually have a 3 inch Redfin now. Just wondering how quickly he will grow. He's got the perfect setup for now. However he is going to be houses in a 65. I'm just waiting for him to get bigger prior to completely setting up the tank. I also need to buy a new canister filter as I put the one I was using for it on my 75. Which is pretty bare aside from a pleco. I've got more tanks than fish at the moment lol.

I've had both grass and redfin pickerels. All have reached 12", or just over. I wish I could tell you how long it took to get there, but all I can say is that it didn't seem very long. (My current Redfin has been full size for years now.) I have him in a 215g with a large bluegill.

Remember that you're limited to other fish that are large enough not to be dinner for the largest pickerel in the tank.

Yes they can reach up to 12" but that is NOT average size for grass/redfin pickerel. A 12" plus redfin/grass pickerel is a monster or trophy sized.
