why is that?

Well, my silver grew from 2" to 17" in a year. So, assuming you start with a baby and it doesn't grow too much more quickly or slowly than mine....your arowana will likely be 1/4 the length of it's tank in about a year. IMHO after a fish like an arowana is more than a quarter the length of it's own tank its really time to upgrade.

if i increased the length, to the 7,8,9' mark, would that be better?

I hesitate to answer questions like these because I know how quickly people get jumped all over on this website for their opinions on tank size compatibility....but i think a silver would be pretty comfortable in an 8 foot long tank for a good many years. Ideally though, adult arowanas should end up in ponds or VERY large tanks.

it going to 1-2 inches a month until like 14-16 inches a big this is only true if kept right

alright thanks how long do you think a aro would last in a 6'x3'wide tank?
probably about a year

I disagree. A 24" silver would be quite comfortable in a 6'x3'x2' tank, and I doubt even in a tank that size that a 4-5" silver will be over 2' in 12 months. I'd say you would be able to keep it in that tank for a few years at least, I'd rather see a 24"+ silver in a tank with a 6x3' footprint than an 8x2' footprint.
