Growth Rate - Per year? Motoro

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
its by Buddies fish and I think the tank was like 135 or something. No Idea how much he was feeding and I am not even sure he was keeping it supa clean. When I saw them the Tank water was TAN in color. Maybe - it is a combination of things, feeding, tank size, cleanliness ??? He is moving her/them into a larger tank and I think they will start getting more attention. we will see if that helps.
Water clarity has nothing to do with water quality.

Yes
Water clarity has nothing to do with water quality.
- you are correct, still its just what I suspect might be part of the issue. I am no expert for sure!

Heck - My 180 has perfect water quality - but it has 4 big pieces of wood and it always the color of tea! lol All the pleco's seem to like it =)

I see that this is a old fourm but,
To my knowledge and please someone correct me if I'm wrong.

To my knowledge, it's going to be a combination of things that effect growth rate. It will also depend in my opinion on the state of the Ray when you get it.

Water quality and how much feed is the most important 2, but then you get into size of the tank and breeding of the particular Ray.

If the water quality is bad, the Ray will have issues growing and most likely die due to disease or death curl. Death curl is also a huge issue if your tank isn't suitable for the Ray. They need allot of room to swim. Mine is in a 125 for a grow out and when she hits about 15 inch disk she will moved to my 260 or something. (Haven't decided about getting a newer tank, haha might do that)

Feeding has already been brought up, more you feed the fast they grow. Naturally. Unfortunately my marble motoro was malnutritioned when I got her so she is catching up. And boy did she. I've had her about 2minths and she's grown about 1/8th to 1/2 inch since. Obviously not a crazy growth rate but when you take into the count of her being extremely skinny when I got her. Makes since.

Finally the breeding. It will depend on the breeding if you Ray is going to get huge or regular size. The smallest I've seen fully grown was 14 inch female at 3 years. Not overly huge but I have seen them get 28 inches before. Some rays just don't get as big as they're others. Has to do with genetics. And that's always complicated.

Hope that helps.
I will say I'm hoping mine stays smaller. I would love it if she stayed about 14 to 15 but I would always plan on the worst, 24 inch to 30.
