growth update on 2 month old rtc.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I usually by a six pound fresh salmon and fillet it and that will last about 2 weeks when I mix it with silversides, catfish nuggets, and talapia.

6 lb salmon? why not jus buy salmon fillets. ur paying for fish ur not even feeding since your only filleting it. but damn, atleast i have a heads up on what to look forward to. 6lb salmon fillets n silver sides within 2 weeks. yay lol

my tsn grew from 4" to 10" in just over 2 months. I have had a lot of catfish grow like that. Mostly when I feed them shrimp with the shell on minus the tails.

shrimp is what my rtc mainly eats. im tryin to get my tsn on shrimp but he's being a prick. only likes the hikari sinking pellets jus like the motoro. hopin he spurts up to 7" within 2 months also, cuz i want them both in the 400 within the next 4 months.

If you buy the salmon pre-fillet its $2 more per lb i figured with the amount of consumption a $2 per lb savings I would fillet it.;)

Thats almost hard to believe. I've probably had over 15 RTC's and have never had on grow THAT fast. I currently have a pair of little guys in a 265 that only grow about 1.5-2" a month tops.

It must be the food. What do you feed him and how often ??

I recently bought a marbled cat, and he grows fast. Fastest grower i ever had. About 3" a month.

good luck.

did you feed them? last rtc I had hit 8 inches in a 29 gallon tank in about two months, had to get rid of him, on account of I still hadnt cycled my larger tanks. I guess I should get on that so i can get a new one!

Yes i do feed them, about 3-4 times a week. I feed them just enough so that their stomachs are well rounded. I currently have 4 RTC's under 8" and one about 12". I notice they all eat the same amount but they definately grow at different rates. I'm trying to keep two 6" guys together and its getting tough because one is growing much faster. Still not 3" or more a month though.

I do 80 gallon water changes weekly in my 265 and all my water parameters are excellent. I've even manages to get my nitates down to near zero. Still no 3+ inches a month of growth

Now that marble cat i was talking about.....He grows AT LEAST 3" a month :screwy:

Just my observations.....

just depends on the individuals. My old marble cat only grew maybe 1" per month on a good month but my tsn grew almost 4" his first month, 3" his second month and is on track to do that for the third month. I bought him at 3" and he is currently at around 13" after less than 3 months. He grows way faster than my planiceps. I got my planiceps at 13" about 6 months ago and he is just now at 20". We'll see what he does for the second month. A good way to track your fish' growth is to take a side of your tank and make tick marks with a ruler every 1/4 inch.

oh my god LOL. 3" to 13" in about 3 months. i can only prey my tsn grows like that. i want it in my 400gal already. my rtc is just about ready to be moved. its somewhere between 8-9" already... i doubt anyone will pick on him at that size. i seriously can't wait 2-3 years from now to see how big n massive they actually get when raising them. i've only seen or heard about how big they get, but never watched the process. ill keep posting update pics every month of the tsn and the rtc.
