grunting toadfish

bought mine at brackish but its now full salt...

Hmmm Now i have ideas running in my head for my brakish tank

All species of toadfish and midshipman do this. The exact sound varies with species and are most prevalent during breeding. It can range from a grunt, to a hoot, to humming. It is produced by "strumming", which is when a specific muscle is vibrated against the air bladder.

I use to have a few and they were brackish...I tried to put them in all fresh, but they didn't last too long...

It was pretty sad, but they were very neat fish!

mine could use a new home...

In general, 3" to 20" depending on the species

mine is probably 6-8 inch and two years old or so. cant keep anything with them that will fit in their big mouths though...

I have seen them in fresh, brackish, or full salt. I kept mine in full salt as that is what it was acclimated to when I bought it. Very cool species. I have read that some toadfishes can make up to 15 different "sounds".
