GT aggro?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I woulden't risk a CK with a green terror , after all there called a "green TERROR"!

I keep both (not in the same tank), and the GTs are a right bugger when breeding etc , but as said it could of been any of your fish , I have always kept woosy CKs tho :D

the name is often a misrepresentation as the true rivulatus is somewhat smaller and more aggressive than the saum. the GT he is probably refering to is Aequidens sp. which is related to the true GT scientific name Aequidens rivulatus.
the saums (sold as GT) are far less aggressive as a whole when compared to the true GT (quite rare) from what ive read. although as with most cichlids its very hard to generalise behaviour.

My female saum is super aggressive, banging the glass when you put your hand there. She is only around 5 inches. My midavil is a lot bigger and she charges her sometimes too. Having said that, even with all the aggression, I don't think that your GT is the culprit. I would agree with the posts that indicate that perhaps the new addition has altered the hierarchy. Also, even if the bite turns out to eb from the GT it doesn't mean that it happened while the CK was still alive.

So far I have found it to be the opposite, but my rivulatus are much smaller than my suam and all from the same breed and by themselves.

i will say that the aggression issues with the true GT compared to the saum is purely info i have read and peoples experiences. i have no first hand experience with a true GT.

alright i have another question about green terrors, i am trying to feed him, i have tryed pellets for a couple of weeks, nothing that i have seen. I threw in some crickets, no response. I just want to make sure he is eating, but most of the time he just sits on the bottom, any reason for that? Ill do a water check in a little but thats all he does.

That doesn't sound right at all. Definitely check readings for ammonia, nitrite/nitrate. He's new, right? He may have something he came with. When in doubt always do water tests 1st. Then you at least have a starting point.

alright ya this whole thing happened, which he seemed fine in the main tank, but i moved him to an iso tank to make sure he was eating right, ill go do a water test right now

Just stick with the Hikari gold pellets for now. He may just be stressed or something. You just got I think right? Give some time. Make sure water is clean.

My Nitrates-0 Ammonia-0.25 ph-7.1 good or bad? It almost seems like i scare him away when i come around the tank, cause i can see him swimming but when i get close he goes and hides, any reason for this?
