Gt and Angels?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My GT was mellow until it hit 8in. and then lived up to the terror part of his name. I would be apprehensive about keeping it with anything too mellow, small, or spikey that can fit in it's mouth.

I lost my GT to a bacterial infection after it cut it's mouth trying to eat my Raphael Cat that was about 5" long.

I'll bet the GT brought it on himself though. Raphael cats like to hide all day. But I hear with those spikes. You always have to do the double or triple bag when you buy or transport those in plastic because of those spines.

And they bark too when you take them out of the water.

you are all completely dismissing having GT's with angels but as any of the cichlid keepers here should know you cant go by a generalised behaviour with large cichlids and anyone with a little experience should also know that weird combinations do work and some in opposite to what they expected.
Trikkymak, angels are not fragile at all. far from it. they are tougher than most people think.
and just because GT has terror in the name does not make it so. mine was a gentle soul till someone attacked him and many other people on here have gentle GT's aka "saums", i have noticed more gentle saums than "terrors" being mentioned on here.

While some of us may have generalize red devils and most cichlids as not suitable with angels, please do bear in mind cichlids have various personalities so do not expect to predict how it will exactly behave towards your other fish. Furthermore, everyone is entitled to their own experiences and opinions. Mileage varies. The only large cichlids in question here are GTs, JDs and RDs. All three of which are in several cases not suitable for most fish.

While I agree with your statement, not all angels are tough enough to tolerate various water conditions. Black angels are one example that are quite delicate and are not recommended for beginners.
