Hey guys, opinions welcome on this small dilemma of mine:

In the spirit of rescuing fish, I have a juvenile GT about 3 inches in my 52 gallon long, dimensions 54 length, 14 front to back, 16 height. This GT is rather aggressive, but I figured a 3 inch stocky convict would handle it easily; so I put them both in the tank after re-arranging ornaments etc.

Came back the other day to find the convict hiding vertically behind the filter, with the GT standing guard waiting for him to emerge; so naturally I removed the convict to a small holding tank while I decide whether to donate him to the LFS.

I managed to get a divider today, which means I could have both in the tank; but what I'm curious about is if I try the divider route for say a week, giving the convict plenty of hidey holes and caves on his side to defend, before removing the divider. Or whether that will fail too.

I guess I'm gonna try the divider option, see what happens; don't want it to be long term though as I'd like my GT to have the full 54 inch length to cruise up and down.

I think try divider, but convicts are cheeky as you told me and then since having one he is so cheeky
what about the trigon? you could try it just to see?
hope whatever you do goes OK :)

You could try it with the extra hiding spots, but the gt will still dominate, and claim the aquarium. Do you use plants at all suggesting this to help break the line of sight. :)

I love plants lol, I usually chuck in a tonne; haven't been to the lfs lately though.

I've put the divider in, I'll get a pic up soon

I would try the divider for awhile, that way the GT gets used to seeing another fish in his tank. Just for kicks, I attached a photo of when I introduced my little GT with a Convict. They never fought after this, but I rehomed the con after it was attempting to breed with my jack dempsey.

Some pics of the divide set up, and convict with GT.

Interestingly, the convict has an orangey belly which I would associate with a female, but has pointed fins and bulk of a male. See what you guys think, sorry for the bad pics, he's still settling down.

Also the dorsal fin starts really far back on the convict...he's maybe inbred or something, his bars are sparse too, kind of blotchy. No idea how old he is, guessing at a couple of years.

It does kinda look like a female to me convict360 convict360 but can really tell from the pic you posted lol, when he/she is more settled and starts to explore can you post another one? I'm really intrigued because orange on male cons isn't something unheard of :)
