GT and JD in a 55g

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'll get some pictures tonight of them and the 55g that didn't work out. Yesterday both had been showing a TON of color from their recent encounter with eachother.

Here is an older picture of the GT in a 29g, I would say he is about 5"s there.

Wow, that guy is chubby. Looking good. I think headrush is onto some good stuff with the territory. Space is not necessarily territory. If you give them an actual cave or a pot that they feel safe in, I think they would be less likely to fight through a bunch of plants just to get in eachothers face.

They are still both in the 55g with a divider in between them. If they would get their sides territory established maybe it would work then.

You might get lucky if they kind of establish themselves on each side, give them some time & try pulling the divider. I've kept a fair amount of JD's and the males in particular, once mine got it in their head to beat somebody up they were pretty persistent.

Adding some other fish is worth a go, to distract them. Tiger barbs are a popular choice, personally I'm a giant danio guy for that; IME they tend to last longer than the TB's.

Personally I'd buy the bigger tank, worst case they still don't get along, but you've still got a new tank hehe.

I'm working on getting some pics of the JD but he is really being shy and not comming out from behind the plants.

I'll keep being patient and watching the tank tonight.

Ok here is the best I could do for pictures without staking out the JD all night. When I do come into the room he is swimming but shoots straight down behind the plants.

wow, both those guys are lookers. I'd get a bigger tank man. They'd look awesome in a 125 together. You'd have a much better shot at getting them to cooperate in a 6ft tank.

WOW :WHOA:

GREAT FISH!! I'm including an old pic of my 90 layout with lots of wood. It should help explain what I meant by hiding spots, as you'll see my JD in the bottom right corner under the wood.

If you're only gona have 2 fish in there and want a bigger tank, I'd say 75-90 woul;d work and would be cheaper than a tank over 100 gal.

Great job raising those guys, they look fantastic. Good Luck!!

WOW!!:WHOA: I REALLY like this guy...fantastic GT.

great pics.:nilly: i think they would be alright in your current set-up, i don't think its likely they will fight to the end,it's always possible, but i've noticed that jacks more than most other sa/ca cichlids will "fight" alot quicker with other fish when placed into a new tank, i'd give them another try without the divider:popcorn:
