OK so I have a nice sized male GT in my 90 who's supplanted my female JD as top dawg in there. The complete stocking list is:

8" GT Male
7" JD Female
4-5" Firemouth Male
2 Bushy nosed Pleco's
1 Gold Nugget pleco
3 YOYO Loaches

My question is that now the GT has overpowered the JD and is clearly the Alpha fish, when will he grow a hump? Seems like it should be forming by now. He eats well, I change water 30% 1x per week, and everything else is in great shape.

Can I do anything to help him along? Maybe something added to his diet would help the Nuchal hump form?

Thanks:headbang2

I don't know anything about loaches, but i've seen them and can't believe that they survive in that tank. Do they hide all the time?

are sure its male? females dont get a nuchal hump. at 8 inches i would expect you to be able to see first signs of one at least.

not all saums get nuchal humps. be lucky if yours does, although i think nuchals should be left for amphilophus, hericthys, and flowerhorns. i think nuchals are gross on aequidens.

The hump is a result of superiority and health as far as I understand. I don't think it has anything to do with the maturity/age of the fish. I've seen GT's with nuchal humps at 3-4 inches or even smaller

Yes I'm sure this GT (Deuce) is a male, no question about it.

The loaches survive easily, and are not bothered at all. They are constantly on the move, and none of my cichlids pay any attention to them.

here is a shot of Deuce (GT) from a couple of months ago. He's still growing. There are also a couple OLD shots of my tank so there are a couple of fish in those pics that aren't in this tank anymore.

Thanks for the help in advance!:D

I have an 8" GT also and he's not showing any signs of a hump either. He's in there with 2 firemouths and runs the tank. I kinda prefer him the way he is though without the hump.

By the way, nice tank. Love the driftwood. Is that one piece?

my GT had a beatiful hump at 2-4in sorry for the bad pic
