Looks good and you certainly got a good start on things-----
Practice makes perfect...Or spend time on photography forums reading up on things.....
Always remember also it's not the camera-that makes a good pic-It's the person who know how to use what they got......

Many things will play a roll into getting results Sir--
We need to know more about your shooting conditions to give you accurate info....

I have a 70 or 75 to 300 made by canon and one made by tamron---

I have no problems getting decent results out of them....

Nikon D70, Sb400 or Sb600 Speed light, 70-300 tamron, single 36" Twin Tube AGA flourescent fixture.

main tank i've shot it for is larger cichlids 13"+

i have trouble with focusing being that the lens's focus and Zoom are opposite from all my Nikkor len's.

i have found it is a better lens for more distant shots of animals and nature, not really a good fishtank lens.
