GT normal?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Like I said in the original post, his coloration is labeled a "neon Green Terror" by one site (credibility limited). I've tried to do some research and haven't found much on Neon Green Terrors. My guess is that he is some type of hybrid; figures.

Im not entirely sure were i read it. But i believe it to be a genetic mutation instead of a hybrid. Were one day said 'neon' GT appeared and it has been selectively bred ever since.

Either way, it looks great! Good pickup.

Thanks Grant! I guess I'll continue to post updates/pics on his progress.

To the OP:
May I ask where you purchased this fish? I also live in STL and am looking to add a fish to my 125 gallon.
Thanks.

"Neon" is probably just another word used to sell the fish. It looks like a regular GT with a different scale pattern. There are some GT's here on MFK that has scaling similar to this.

You know, the only way to be 100% sure it is a seperate species is to find a whole batch of babies like that. If it was the only one OR if only a small % of the babies were like that then it could be a genetic defect.

Possibilities: Inbreeding...

Cichlids usually have a uniform consistent patterning of colors...Who knows, lol, Stalsbergi have inverted patterns so maybe it was a Rivalatus x Stalsbergi hybrid.
