GT or Texas

I would pick texas, but if you want something that will interact with you go with a Jaguar Cichlid.
My last GT was full of personality. He would come up for food, follow me across the glass and if I got up close he would flare his gills and act like a tough guy. not a glass banger but still pretty cool. texas on the other hand are cool looking, but I haven't found one with near as much personallity as my GT had. I'd go for a RD or a Midas if personallity is what you want in a Central, they've got it by the truck load .

WOH 22"? I don't think I've ever heard of them reaching that size, maybe around 16". I'd love to see that (but not in a 55G lol).

IME and what I have seen is both are pretty much equal in terms of attitude and aggression and size. A GT can be taken for more color while a texas(carpintis) for its glitter.
One more thing, while buying either of the two try to pick out the most dominant, aggressive, handsome and perfect looking fish out of the lot from your LFS tank, such fish usually turn out more interactive and full of attitude. Thats from my experience...

I'd go GT for a "showpiece" specimen, as I have always enjoyed the (gold saum) green/orange/gold color combo. Carpintis are very nice as well, just not as flashy, IMO.
I actually have 7 GTs and 6 carpintis at the moment. I'm still trying to decide which ones I'm keeping and how to distribute them among my tanks. Luckily, the carpintis are still only 1.75"-2.25" and growing out separately from the GTs, so I've got some time.

With my experiance with a true fish..Jag, RD, Tiger Oscar.. GT there beautiful..however not glass bangers..texas are ok but there colors can be a turndown
