Nice looking fish Repair.

Good point about how some fish are just mean. I've had a few that were like that. It suprises me that these are spawing at such a small size, the female anyway. Every pair I have had were larger before they would spawn and then it took them 3 or 4 trys before they got it right.

After I posted last I did the un thinkable (for me any way) I visited two local chain pet shops to look at their fish. Both shops had the most f-'-d up looking green terrors I have ever seen. THey had odd markings and pale color but the worst thing was their heads were way to big for their body. THey looked deformed. THeir "red terrors" were europthalmus, not festae, Some of their oscars had crooked mouths, the angel fish had stubby/bent fins & missing gill covers. Only one of the two shops I visited had salt water, un freek 'n believable. THe term cesspool came to mind. Perhaps there is a cyano bacterial algae contest going on that I don't know about. If there is, the one shop I visited would win. What the hell are people thinking? What a disgrace to the hobby. And there were lots of people in there buying fish!!! Very discouraging to see that.....

My male is really laid back. They have only had on spawn about 11 months ago but they have gone through the motions since then but no little ones. I'm shure as she gets older they will do better.

So I just got another GT which is male, (other one female) and the male keeps following around the female with his gills all flared out, he also has ich, so is this a courtship thing or could it have something to do with the ich?

Green Terrors are naturally agressive and terrorize other tank mates. Therefore the name... ;)

I believe you but, man, that seem small to be seeing noticable differances between males and females. A 3 1/2"er laying eggs? A 3"er with a noticable hump on its head? I have owned many green terrors although I'll admit the last large pair I had was about 10 years ago. I couldn't sex them untill they were 6' or more and even then I was not 100% positive. I had two pair up at about 8"-10" and spawn pretty regularly. They were 2-3 years old by then.

I recently got 6 of them about 2-3 inches long, I can't tell you what sex they are. I can't even tell you for sure what specie they are. (rivulatis I am hoping) One bullies the rest of them by flairing it's gills and chasing the others. It might be a male, might be an agressive female, I don't know, too small to tell.

I'm not really sure what to say about this, at this size they should not be mature enough to be spawing. I guess they could be stunted. I've seen lots of fish displaying adult colors when that are really small and should not be. I think this is caused by mass production of fish, inbreeding/crossbreeding & not being selective about what spawns together. Alot of undesirable traits are being bred into these mass produced fish. The quality of many fresh water fish have really declined in the last 15 years or so, especially with cichlids.

I am interested to hear other peoples experiances or opinions about this.
the orieant is famous for dying and jucieing ( injecting steriod's) in fish to get adult look at a small size hence a dwarf oscar!!!??

i origianlly have a green terror around 3 inches and i bought another gt for it last night. the original one as soon as i put the new one in it came up infront of it and started shaking then all day has been chasing it and biting its fins. i thought maybe it could be a territory thing so i removed the originals hiding place and yet it still attacks the new one. the new one is now laying between a pot like scared for its life while the origianl one is free swimming. any advice? there both too small to sex so idk. the origianl was bought with another gt but it died. The Gt shows no aggresion towards the cichlids i have just the new Gt i bought.
