So i made a huge noob mistake about a month ago, I cleaned out my entire filter and had to re-cycle my tank. During this headache my poor Green Terror lost almost all of his color and was refusing to eat. I have the water levels all where they should be but he still wont eat anything thats not alive (earth worms and ghost shrimp) Before this all happened he was a great eater who would eat pretty much any frozen food or pellet I threw in there. He also has been pooping white.(I have read that that is a parasite but the medicine does more harm than the parasite itself) Does any one have ideas? And I havent noticed his stomach sinking in. Thanks Al

so when your GT dies because of the parasites at least you can rest in the knowledge that you let it die slowly instead of giving it a shot at life while it was under your care.
just be a responsible owner and treat the fish with something like jungle parasite clear. meds generally dont kill.

if the fish is still pretty chunky then treat with jungle because its safe and at the same time as treating starve out the fish over a week and throw a few pellets in. if it doesnt eat, give it another few days and add more pellets. carry this cycle and eventually it will eat.

feed it some peas and treat with some meds talk to ure lfs

Thanks for the info im going to the lfs tomorrow to purchase "jungle parasite clear" but i have one question, will this harm any other fish in the tank whom don't have the parasite?

I've lost 2 GTs to this same thing. I tried every parasite medication out there. I even gut loaded ghost shrimp with medicated food, and then fed them to him, but nothing worked. Two friends of mine also lost a couple GTs to the same issue. I truly don't think it's a parasite, it seems more like some sort of intestinal issue that these particular fish can suffer from...

I've never really come to a conclusion about why it happens or what it is. Though I've read many accounts of this happening. However if I was to try another GT, knowing about this "condition", I'd feed him/her very sparsely, and only with omnivorous/herbivorous food with lower protein levels and a high fiber content.

I agree, i lost a GT to this once, i tried several medicines and nothing worked, he would only eat live food, and eventually after about 2 months of trying to heal him, he died. i hope you can find a way to help yours.

What are his tankmates? Do they have similar symptoms?

I'm hoping that it's only a parasite and not a intestinal problem, I think gts are one of the most intresting fish. I'm willing to do what ever it takes to save him. The other fish in the tank is a pink convict with no signs of any parasite or problems. Thanks for the advice and sorry to hear about your fish, cheers Al

This is common to GT's. I don't believe it's a parasite problem as I've had one with the same symptoms in spite of a UV Sterilizer. I tend to think it's an internal problem that plagues GT's. I've not seen many success stories once people see white stringy poop. Good luck though.
