lol why is my GT eating sand? 4" sex..unknown

is it taking in mouthfulls of sand but you see sand coming out of its gills or is it literally eating sand and not releasing it?

if it is the former then it is just sifting for food, if it is the latter then i havent a clue other than to maybe increase feedings to 3-4 times daily with a range of food if i was to hazard a guess.

yeah he is just sifting for food, most cichlids will do this, they will also grab mouthfuls of sand and carry it to a different part of the tank and release it in order to dig holes and landscape the tank to their liking. and at 4in it should be pretty easy to sex, you should post a pic of it.
