The only thing my gt will eat is raw shrimp, night crawlers and he wants eat it every 30 mins but if its pellets he will not even look at it.I quit feeding them shrimp and worms for a couple of weeks but it did not work.He hates pellets.I even got different one but still nothing. He is not growing at all..

If you starve him, he will eat. Unless he has some kind of illness he won't starve himself to death.

I had a stubborn dat that would eat nothing but blackworms. I just offered only pellets to him and he starved himself for a little over a month and then he started to eat the pellets. He grew a lot faster too.

Just try starving him again and don't give in.

Heres a pic of him.he is skiny

More than likely it was something else that killed him or forced him to stop eating. Animals (especially fish) will not starve themselves when food is redily available.... Still sucks though! sorry to hear it!

My GT is picky too. I have to starve him to get him to eat regular cichlid pellets such as Hikari or Omega One. He will eat Hikari sinking carnivore pellets until his gut protrudes though.

Anybody know how healthy or unhealthy feeding him sinking carn. pellets is?

My GT was pulling the same thing when it was around 3". I found some sinking mini cichlid granules (tetra brand I think) he liked after trying 4-5 other kinds. I also changed the water more often and he ate like a pig. Maybe your water params are off? I change around 30-50% every sunday.

Worms and shrimp aren't bad for him tho so why don't you just keep feeding them that stuff? Have you tried krill yet? I started feeding that about 2 months ago after reading so many posters here about people feeding their GT's that stuff to bring out their colors. Mine goes nuts for it now, and so does my JD.

Also if you really want to feed pellets, he might not like the texture. try soaking them in tank water first. I have a shot glass I use sometimes. Scoop up some tank water and throw the pellets in for about 3-5 minutes, they'll soften right up.
Looks like a nice little male Gold Saum too. Nice fish! :headbang2:headbang2 :headbang2
