i have a 7 inch male GT, i was wondering if i ever found a female, what are the chances that they would pair up? is there a great chance of my male killing the female? or vica versa ? hes in a 55g alone and i want to get him some friends so if you have any ideas let me know

I think that there is a less than 50% chance that they will pair up. The male will likely beat up on the female. People have had success with getting a breeding pair at this size, but just be prepared to have to move the female.

Throw a convict or two in there. GTs love chasing them. Keeps them busy and if you DID find a female it just might keep him busy enough to leave her a lone.

I'll always keep convicts with any agressive cichlids I have. they are like dithers that stand up to aggressors, even instigate stuff sometimes.

just give them caves to hide in, with an escape hole on the back end.

Lol, I have a 4 to 5 inch Midas Devil, a 3 to 4 inch Saum and a 3 to 4 inch JD.

At the moment my convicts have them all trained to stay out of their areas. They don't dare go after the convict fry that are in there right now (and the female convict is only maybe 2 inches).

I built a real deep cave. which is inhabited by a pair of cons. my RD goes over to investigate, but is usually chased (sometimes led) away by the male, who stands guard and keeps every other fish on the opposite half, or top level of the aquarium. wonder if there is eggs or fry in that cave? i can't see that far in it, and don't want to disturb it.

If the female goes in and out constantly then chances are you will see fry soon. I have similar situation in my tank and next thing I know I have an army of baby convicts.

the female stays in almost constantly, comes out occaisionally. the male does opposite, stands guard above the entrance, only going in on rare occaision.

the female barely even comes out to eat.

My female would go in and out constantly patrolling.
