rhode island of course
Dovii, wolf cichlid, Rainbow Bass

Scientific Name: Parachromis Dovii
pH: 7.6

kH:10-12

Temp.: 76-86

Geo. origin: Honduras to Costa Rica

Habitat: Streams, Pools, Drainage Channels

Diet: Carnivore

Breeding: Substrate Spawner

Temperment: Highlt Aggressive

Difficulty: 4

Max. Size: 24"(Or Larger)

Info:

This is not a fish to play around with, this is a large aggressive fish with its name (Wolf cichlid), describing its personality to a tee. This is one of the largest maybe the largest cichlid out there. The wolf cichlid should not be kept in no smaller then a 180 gallon aquarium at minimum(should be kept in a 265 gallon at best) this is for one fish, a pair should be in larger aquarium. Mainly a piscivorous cichlid it feeds on crustaceans and insects. This fish catches its prey using its teeth called pseudocanines, which it grabs a hold of and kills it prey in a matter of seconds. These teeth will devastate anny tankmate kept with them, as well as the hand tht feeds them(that means you MFk'ers) so beware.

Food in Captivity:
Pellets
Krill
Crayfish(declawed)
Fish fillets
All frozen food
and anything else that gets in its way

This fish breeds in small to medium grade substrate, in which it digs large pits(usually around 5-6 pits depending on size and territory) they do this so that they can move there fry around to keep them safe. Even though most animals would not bother a large m/f pair. The pair will usually have anywhere from 500-1000 eggs, maybe more depending on sizes of fish. They will brutally guard the fry and usually stay with them till they are a descent size 1"-2" maybe even bigger.

The Dovii requires clean water. They can not tolerate anything less then perfect water conditions. You may think that they can but they will not. You will no that ur Dovii is Happy if you see a violet sheen on its head. This means water changes and large ones every week. I would suggest only feeding ur fish once a day, or even every other day at that to have a healthy fish. Don't worry you will not starve ur fish.

Aquarium setup must include large rocks, and driftwood to replicate this guapotes natural habitat. You can try some plants(plastic) but the dovii will move them all over the place. They will redecorate everything. Even the driftwood. I would suggest keeping the tank a simple as possible so that it is easier to clean. Also good filtration is a must. At least double or triple gph(gallons per hour) on your filter. I would also get a strong heating just incase your dovii gets the idea to throw a fit and break yours.

Tankmates for your dovii could include:

  • Umbee
    Black Nasty
    rtc
    tsn
    managunse
Just to name a few.they will not tolerate anything especially when they start to hit the 5-6 inch mark

The dovii should only be left to aquariust with very large aquaria, and experience with large cichlids.

Jaguar, Managua Cichlid

Scientific Name: Parachromis Managuensis

pH: 7.0-8.0

kH: 8-10

Temp.: 76-82

Gei. Origin: Central American Lowlands

Habitat: Streams and Pools

Diet: Carnivore

Breeding: Substrate spawner

Temperment: Highly Aggressive

Difficulty: 4

Max Size: 16"-18"(depending on sex)

Info:

The second fish in the genus Parachromis, it is not a aggressive as it counterpart the wolf cichlid(parachromis dovii), but it can surely compare in temperment. Also getting its name from a highly aggressive mamal the jaguar. It should not be kept in an aquarium no smaller than 180 gallons. The Jaguar is a large piscivorous fish, that will feed on mainly crustaceans, and fish in the wild. But in captivity will eat anything from pellets, to frozen, to live food( I do not suggest live food) because it can cause many diseases(Hole in the head) and many others. This fish just like the Dovii, has large teeth called pseudocanines, that when full grown can be around a 1/4 of and inch.

Foods in captivity:
Pellets
Krill
Crayfish(declawed)
Fish fillets
All frozen food
Insects
Vegetable matter

The jaguar is a substrate spawner just like most of the fish in the genus Parachromis. It digs large beds, where the m/f religously guard the fry, the female taking the majority of the time to fan and clean the eggs. While the male usually wards of any would-be predators trying to get a quick meal. The jaguar will move the fry from bed to bed, so they are not in one place all the time. They usually stop guarding the fry at around 1-2". Where then the fry go off and try to fend for themselves( Only maybe 50 out of every brood, may survive).

The jaguar requires large water changes, and pristen water quality to go through life. If the water quality is not perfect then it will eventually lead to disease, and most likely death in your fish. You can be safe and do 50% water changes rather then the usually told 1/3 water change. Also feed your fish 1 time a day. And only a small amount, and I stress do not feed live goldfish(unless they are quarunteened, and feed a high quality vegetable matter, such as spirulina) this should be done for maybe a week or two.

Aquarium setup should consist of large rocks, and driftwood. I would suggest if you are keeping the fish as a wetpet(by itself) then just leave the tank bare bottomed, and as simple as possible. This will help with easy water changes, and a cleaner tank is a happy fish. You should have a large high quality filter on the tank.

Tankmates:
Umbee
Black Nasty
rtc
tsn
loiselli
friedrichsthalii
dovii
arrowan(large)
large pike cichlids(even though water quality is different)
red devil

The jaguar should only be left to aquarist with large aquaria.

Although you say the pics above arent yours......you must ask permission to use them. The bottom dovii is mine-remove it please.

Look, dovii88. All you have to do is source your material. Your doing this for learning purposes to teach people about dovii's, etc, all the other guapote's. It is in your rights as an American citizen to use those photos for those purposes. He's not making any financial gain from using them. You don't have to take those photo's down. No laws are being broken.

that's not exactly true. if a particular website is copyrighted then using material from that source without written permission is called copyright infringement which is illegal. some websites have their content copyrighted while others do not. it is important to find out for sure if the pictures and/or information from another site you are using is copyrighted or not. also, just because one may be a US citizen does not give them the right to simply take material from one source for use at another source. simply giving credit to the original source may not always be sufficient.

not sure if it's fair use to link to this

copyright laws vary from country to country and the internet (being an international entity) makes things that much more complicated. it really comes down to the individual website as to wether or not they (the admins of that site) want to take the risk of having something that's copyrighted being used on their website without the required written permission. another website I'm registered to expressly prohibits any such usage without permission but perhaps the admin of that site is simply overly-cautious.

one thing I can say for sure is that other websites that have wished to use my pictures for profiles on their website have always contacted me for permission first. :)
