ding ding ding we have a winner!!! kevenflemming21!!! ya i breed praying mantises and every year i go put the eggs from my breeding pairs in one section of our backyard. then i regularily check them and then harvest the best ones from the clutches. i will go see if i can get some pix of them right now. i have one high end melenistic one lime green with super eyespots and one...super red one!!! i have only ever seen one other red common mantis, so im prettty stoked about finding him. i have been keeping mantises since i was around 6 so i now have a pretty good idea about their every need. if you know of a place though that sells malaysian spider or malaysian orchid mantises i will be forever in your debt. i found i guy who sold them once before, but he was sold out

i was talking exo skeletons. and look up Gabon Giant Mantis. a picture used to come up of some eating everything from lizards to other mantises and one was eating a fish. so since they can pierce hard exoskeletons(which is an insects armor plating) and if their big enough sclaes(which are fishes armor, and reptiles) i consider their jaws armor piercing. heres a link to an album i just made with all their pix, too many to put on a post

^if that was the case then no they cant pierce that(they would have to be huge, like a 6 foot mantis maybe) but i drop in a pill bug(which has some tough exoskeleton) or an armored bettle(yet again super tough exoskeleton) and the mantis always wins
