Ya I had to let him sit till I could get Bstuver and family over .. Then it ended up being a one person job...
But it was reassuring just to have them there to help It was relatively simple do to the size of the Cichla!!
I used the Snips to cut the plecs head in half and then off..
Then it was a little work to free it.. And I had to remove him through the gills!!
That was the scariest part... I tried for a split second to extract back the way he went in.. But I would have Lost both .. After all the little spines holding him in the mouth were free.. It slid really easily through the gills...
Good job on the surgery. If it were me operating I would've ended up kill the peacock bass. There is something tastey about a pleco that make a lot of predator fish eat them. When I had a red belly it used to eat everyone of it's tankmates.
