I cant imagine how many people have lost their rod to these guys. I remember as a kid, rods flying over the side of the pier because someone wasnt paying attention.

so many, my friend recently lost a little rod that he wasn't paying attention too, i have caught one of mine as it was going over the side, due to a big guitarfish, i always put my reel in free spool with the clicker on, so i can't lose it

Will it hurt the ray if I put my fingers in to holes? Or were they designed for fisherman.lol

The holes are spiracles, water intake for locomotion and breathing. I would not cram my fingers into them as it would likely damage the fish.

I believe that if you are careful you will not harm the fish, i have handled probably hundreds this way and the only time i have ever felt the possibility of damage was on the 80+ lbers. They are so heavy that maybe it could tear or injure them. I just make sure to be careful with them.
