:grinno: damn dude my jaw droped for a second i'm sure others will get a kick out of that

i would really wash that sand or it will cloud your tank pretty bad just put the sand in a bucket or something and fill it up with some water stur the sand up really good and let the heavy part settle and pour off the rest do the till when you stir it the water stays pretty clean don't worrie you won't be able to rinse it totally clean but at least rinse it a few times

also make sure the intake for your power filters are raised around 3''-4'' above the sand or it will get sucked up and that can be pretty bad for for the filter

mate....take some of that sand back out.....4" deep is too much, you need more water in there!!

and yeah you wan't only around 1''-2'' of sand much eazier to keep clean plus more room for water

what is settling? Do a water change, and stick the python straight in the sand. It will remove the junk floating in the water, and get rid of the sand. Make sure one end is in the bucket so the sand doesn't go down the sink

cant take any out my tank is already settleing and i dont want to disterb it

c_b, don't worry about disturbing the tank, the fish are probably already stressed from moving, so you have to do it before they settle. Constantly rearranging things is more stressful to the fish than doing it big one time. All sorts of things will get trapped in 4-5" of sand and that can harm your fish. Even 1-2" is too much. I recommend keeping 1/4-1/2" of sand in the tank. Then you won't have to stir your sand or kill yourself doing water changes. In addition, sand that high will easily get sucked into the intakes, which will damage your filters.

Don't worry too much about not cleaning the sand, some water changes will fix things in no time.

I can't wait for pics of you newly improved tank! :)

im getting a pythen hose on the first, dont have one yet
You can use any type of hose, cut it to about 6 feet, stick one end in the tank and have the other end in a bucket on the ground. Suck on the side of the hose nearest to the bucket and you will have started a siphon. Just try not to suck up any of the water, it tastes like :barf:

I'm not gonna lie, when i read the first part my heart jumped.

But yeah you need to wash the sand to get rid of the fine particulate, which will pretty much kill all your fish.
