Guess What I Ordered!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
cgronko- Thanks, not planning on breeding them but if it does happen I will try to raise the fry. I should be getting some altums next month, then I will have all three species of pterophyllum. Might add in "Peru altums" with the scalares. The blue tint is not the camera, it is on the fish. The camera somehow enhanced it as the blue is only on the pelvic fins really but looks brighter in the pics.

Lupin- Thank you very much.

They picked at some blood worms yesterday and tried some TetraRubin granules. This morning they wolfed down the bloodworm. They are not skittish at all and show fantastic color.

Here are a few more pics of them, more relaxed this time. They have lovely speckling on their tails, the bigger ones even have a little on their dorsel fins. I have some BBA ( Black Brush Algae ) which the leopoldis seem to love nibbling on. The pH is kept around 6.8. They do seem a little more aggressive even at this young age but it is not serious yet, the tank also has many visual barriers and hiding places. The aggression seems to be only conspecific and they do not bother their tankmates.

Now for the those pics.

they are very nice looking angels in a beautiful tank...is there ever any aggression in your 6ft with the BGK and your angels or clowns?

Hi there... Beautiful leos:clap:clap.. and nice tank setup for them... I am a little confused..Are they going to be staying with the rams or getting moved into the 6 footer?? I have a feeling any shrimp are gonna be lunch:ROFL::ROFL:.. I am curious to learn how the aggression level is compared to other types of angels.. How large are the body sizes.. quarter or half dollar???
Good luck with them and more pics as everyone settles in please:popcorn:Sue:D

Hi SusieQ and thanks. The rams are staying in there, the six footer will be the scalare/geo tank but I haven't decided on which geos to keep yet. The shrimp are bought as live food and get replenished every week but this is not their only food source. From what I have seen over the past couple of days their level of aggression is quite a bit higher than my farm raised scalare but nothing that would do damage to each other. As for the body sizes, I have one small one with a body size just bigger than a quarter and the rest are half dollar size.

They look great, and that's one ingenious way to feed them. Did you buy it, or did you make it yourself?

Marius thanks.

I bought the feeder here, it sells for about $3.50 for the big one and about $2.50 for the smaller one. Most discus angelfish keepers use them here as it stops most of the bloodworm/frozen brine form falling to the bottom.

A DIY one could be easily made using tubing siliconed together by bending the ends round and some netting put around the tubing to form well....a net.
